Luminol, also known as 3-amino benzoyl hydrazine, is a common chemiluminescent substance commonly used in various detection and experiments in the fields of biology and chemistry. Its unique chemiluminescence properties make it widely used in high-sensitivity detection of trace substances and labeling of biomolecular reactions.

The chemiluminescence of Lumino mainly involves two steps: oxidation and proton transfer. In alkaline solution, luminol is oxidized by oxidants (such as hydrogen peroxide, potassium permanganate, etc.) to excited luminol ions (3-amino benzoyl hydrazine cation), which are unstable and release energy and return to the ground state, while emitting photons. During the proton transfer process, the Luminolate ion absorbs protons from the surrounding medium and converts them into a reduced state of Luminolate, completing the cycle.
1. Trace substance detection: The chemiluminescence intensity of luminol is linearly related to the concentration of reactants, making it suitable for the detection of trace substances. For example, in the presence of hydrogen peroxide, luminol reacts with iron ions to generate strong fluorescent substances, which can be used for the detection of trace iron in water samples.
